The Arco Adriatico Ionico Association is a non-profit organization, established in 2005 by the 13 Italian coastal Provinces of the Middle-southern Adriatic and Ionian seas, belonging to the NUTS III level.

The idea to create the Association is born thanks to the awareness that, the territories concerned by the initiative, present several common needs and development capabilities, constituing a real macro region within the European Union.

Arco is aimed at realizing actions in the European policy's domain, knowing that the respect of values, objectives and fondamental rights promoted and protected by the European Union, can be better guaranteed through the shared action of its members.

Principal goals of the Association's activities are defining and implementing integrated planning and development strategies for the territories concerned, with the involvement of several economic, social and cultural actors also to promote cohesion and fight against divisions within the integration process of the South-East and Mediterranean countries.

The cross border vocation of Arco is visible in the important territorial partnerships realized during the last years between associated Provinces and some countries in the Balkan region, in particulal Albania and Montenegro.

To consolidate and stabilize, in the long period, the good relationships existing betwwen local communities of both sides of the Adriatic and Ionian seas, the Association is opened to the accession of new members that will submit a specific request.
